Village Hall

Normanton-on-Soar community shop opened for business on 16 August 2007 having received funding from the Village CORE Programme. The shop, which has its premises at the back of the newly-built village hall, is staffed by volunteers.

A key force behind the new shop is parish clerk Jenny Faulks. Jenny said: ‘We’ve been really pleased with everyone’s generosity in terms of time and goods, both from within and outside the village. Loughborough Building Society has awarded us £475 for a picnic table which is suitable for use by disabled people. The table can be used for refreshments outside the shop in good weather. And to involve everyone in our great new village shop we held a competition for the shop logo - and this was won by Jack Harvey Rice aged 6.

The shop is open every day and stocks a wide range of dairy products, meat, bakery goods, local food, milk, organic produce, speciality foods and everyday convenience goods.

We are hoping to stock local produce wherever possible, as well as Fairtrade goods and we’ll offer internet services to those who need them. We still need volunteers to help us run the shop and, if anyone can offer help, then please call Chris Pheasant on 01509 646464.
