Claverdon Community Shop opens
A large steel cabin was lowered into place behind Claverdon's Dorothea Mitchell Hall, and soon after the village's new community shop opened for business.
The old village store - which had served the community for 90 years - closed in 2006 and a band of determined residents started work on replacing the 'essential cornerstone' of village life. The project chairman, Nigel Goodrich, said of the new shop, 'It's not only going to be an opportunity to buy confectionary, bread and newspapers - it's also a community service, a place where people can meet.'
