Collyweston Community Shop in Northamptonshire has recently won two awards in the Northamptonshire 'Improving your Patch Awards'.  They won the East Northants District Award (£150) and the County Award (£400).  In addition to the two very welcome cheques, the shop was presented with three certificates and a carved oak plaque which is now on display in the shop.  The award money will go towards some new wooden shelving - together with the added discount that is available through the Plunkett Website on Gadsby Basketware.

A community owned shop in Yorkshire is one of six schemes in the running for a £2,000 environmental prize. If they are succesful, they will eligible for a further £5000 prize. 

The Government has announced its intention to retain the Food Standards Agency (FSA) with a renewed focus on food safety. The Department of Health will become responsible for nutrition policy in England, and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will become responsible for country of origin labelling and various other types of food labelling not related to food safety, and food composition policies in England. Lodsworth Larder are delighted to announce they have been awarded the "Public and Community Award" from The Sussex Heritage Trust in the section covering "a new project which provides or improves facilities for the community".

The Green Valley Grocer, a community owned shop in the South Pennines village of Slaithwaite, recently won its second award of the year. The shop won the Business and Economy category for the whole of Yorkshire and the Humber in the Market Town Awards organised by Action for Market Towns.

Buckland Brewer residents will be putting their money on the line as part of a community shop fund raising event on Saturday 24 July. Shop supporters in the North Devon village are being encouraged to donate their change by filling the outline of the proposed community shop, which will replace the post office and general store that closed in March 2009. The coin trail takes place at the Buckland Brewer Methodist Church between 10.30 am and 1.30 pm. Shop committee chairman Peter McClymont says: “Losing our local shop last year was a blow to the community.

A number of community-owned shops and representatives stepped up to the co-operative mark at the Co-operatives 2010 three day long conference. The event brought together a range of community shops, from those in their first year of trading through to those that had been up and running for 16 years, as well communities pushing forward to open their shops in the very near future.

Warwickshire community benefit project secures award recognition from the RICS

Barford Village Shop in Warwickshire has been awarded a top prize at the annual RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) West Midlands awards ceremony, which took place in Meriden last night.

The development of a new shop and post office located within the village of Barford in Warwickshire secured the coveted Community Benefit award.

After looking at over thirty possible locations, the community group decided to build the new shop as an extension to the existing village hall.

Frensham Village Shop in Surrey is due to move into purpose built shop premises in early 2011, and when it does, will no longer require its current home - a purpose built, 40 foot, portacabin style building.

The Community Shops Network Meeting - the first gathering of community-owned shops following the establishment of the online Community Shops Network - is almost fully booked. The event will bring together community-owned shops and all those involved in community retailing.

Kirdford community-owned village shop in Sussex was opened by actor Julie Walters on 5th June.  The shop opening, following hot on the heels of the community-owned shop on Radio 4’s The Archers this week, is the fiftieth new shop to open following the support of a dedicated support programme for communities looking to set up and run a community-owned shop.
